SS Obergruppenfuhrer
Werner Lorenz Formal Evening Dress Jacket
#4120
Note: July, 15, 2008
This tunic has just had a restoration
completed in which damage to the fabric was corrected in several
locations. A professional tailor
skilled in the art of reweaving has restored the damage on the front panel,
using original material from the tunic, to a point where you cannot tell where
the frayed frontal damage was. The
back of the left sleeve also had a rip all the way through, which was too
severe for reweaving but was expertly repaired leaving only a lateral seam as
evidence. Several rips in the interior
lining were also sewn or patched shut and the very loose hanging buttons were
firmly resewn in place. The breast badge has been re-affixed to
the breast and the backing plate was retrieved from inside of the lining. There are some before and after shots
listed at the bottom of this page for those interested in the restoration. The tunic was also lightly cleaned using
only water, no soap, detergents or cleaning solutions.
