for more detailed images) | Fallschirmjäger (paratrooper) Camo Helmet This is an
ET68 M38 helmet with a lot number 2255 indicating production sometime in late
1942-early 1943. The helmet was thickly brush-painted over the factory paint
with a haphazard mix of standard vehicle camouflage paints.
At the time it was camouflaged, there had been a wire wrapped around the
shell circumference and across the top of the dome; both front-to-back and
side-to-side. This wire was later removed and discarded. The liner is an
aluminum framed type with early light-colored pads; normally seen in use with
helmets dating to 1938-39 but also seen in helmets believed to be wartime
rebuilt. The leather of the liner and chinstrap harness shows considerable
wear but remains intact and sound. It has an honest appearance and it appears
each of the components are pre-1945 original to this helmet. | SOLD |

Helmet A commercially made example which dates to 1934-36. Before the time that M35s became readily available, helmets were obtainable through commercial contractors; for purchase either by a unit or by individuals. The actual manufacturer has not been identified but did produce helmets in either nickle-chrome steel or a lightweight version made of a tin alloy known to the Germans as "blechstahl". This example is the heavier alloy version which was sold generally for 15-17 RM. Both versions of this helmet were produced with a frontal visor which has a pronounced downward slant; causing it to be termed as the "droop bill" style. The helmet is lined with a leather framed liner similar to the M27 which was used by the military contracted helmets prior to the advent of the model 35 series helmets. This liner is permanently riveted to the shell as is the dual adjustment buckle. This helmet has been re-used/repainted a couple of times; once being adorned with police decals but more recently an Army decal was added. The army decal is the type produced by the Eduard Strach company of Warnsdorf and is a decal found on reworked M16-18 style helmets which are generally considered to be of lesser quality and theoretically supplied to rear area troops. The helmet retains a good portion of its original paint. The liner and strap are intact. Overall, this is a good example of a pre-war helmet which saw a substantial bit of service; being refurbished and re-utilized several times. | $2100 |
